Native America Calling

Friday, December 9, 2016 - December Music Maker: DJ Shub
Electronic dance beats with a heavy house blend has taken off in the past decade. This month we connect you to one Indigenous musician that really knows how to wrangle the beats. Dan "DJ Shub" General of the Mohawk Nation just released his debut solo project titled "PowWowStep." Formerly of A Tribe Called Red, DJ Shub continues to bring the sound that many audiences have embraced as they step to the dancefloor. The award-winning music mixer is our December Music Maker.

When tobacco smoke threatens non-smokers
Tobacco smoke contributes to 41,000 non-smoker deaths every year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A handful of studies, including one by the Proceedings of the National Academies of Sciences, suggest even thirdhand smoke-chemicals and residue from tobacco smoke that settle on walls, clothes and furniture-might also cause harm, mostly for people in smokers' homes. Some tribes ban commercial tobacco smoking in certain areas. But is that enough to protect children and other nonsmokers?
