Today, December 21 – Science meets tribal knowledge on the Northern Lights
Lakota astrophysicist and artist Annabelle S. Lee connects to the night sky through both Western science and traditional knowledge. She can explain the physical properties that bring the Northern Lights into view. She can also tell the stories of Indigenous star-gazers who incorporate Aurora Borealis into their cultural teachings. She collaborated with Anishinaabe photographer Travis Novitsky on the book Spirits Dancing.
